Nagpur: The Income Tax Department reportedly conducted searches at multiple premises linked to a prominent Nagpur-based builder ahead of Diwali, triggering a stir in the city’s real estate sector.
According to local reports, an Income Tax team reached the builder’s premises near Medical Square on Ajni Road in the morning. Officials reportedly remained at the office late into the day, examining documents, while police personnel were deployed outside.
Searches at Multiple Locations
The action reportedly targeted builder Shashank and certain locations associated with him. Searches were also reported at his residence in Ramdaspeth.
Sources cited in the report suggested that the action may be linked to suspected tax non-compliance. However, the precise grounds for the operation and the findings of the department have not been officially confirmed.
Officials reportedly continued scrutinising documents late into the night. The builder was said to have remained at the office during the proceedings.
Other Contractors Under Scrutiny
The report also indicated that surveys were being conducted at two or three premises linked to contractors associated with the builder.
The reported action has drawn attention within Nagpur’s construction and real estate industry, particularly with Diwali approaching.
