Nagpur: What was meant to be a Halloween celebration has turned into a disturbing controversy in Nagpur’s Laxminagar area. A popular café that hosted the “Urban Flea Fair” event is now under intense public scrutiny after shocking details emerged involving minor girls, alcohol, and alleged misuse of influence.
According to reports, the café owner had handed over the event’s management to a group of 18 to 19-year-old organizers. This young group had started a WhatsApp group nearly two months earlier to recruit volunteers — which, alarmingly, included several minors.
On October 30, during late-night preparations, all volunteers were called to the café for briefing. One of the minor girls was dropped off by her mother after being told she would be done by 11 p.m. When her mother returned, the girl was missing. Organizers claimed she had left around 7 p.m.
The truth was far worse. It later came to light that the girl had gone with some organizers to a flat in the Ajni area, where an alcohol party was taking place. Police intervention led to her being found — reportedly intoxicated.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the girl’s parents did not file a formal complaint, fearing social stigma. But the incident has sparked outrage among locals. “This is not just irresponsibility — it’s exploitation under the guise of entertainment,” said one resident, demanding immediate police action.
Meanwhile, sources say that when the café management began probing the issue, one of the young organizers allegedly claimed to be “a friend of a political leader’s son” and tried to shut down the matter.
The incident has now raised troubling questions — are minors being exploited at city events organized without proper supervision? And more disturbingly, are influential political connections being used to silence accountability?
The so-called Halloween celebration has peeled back a darker truth about unchecked youth events in Nagpur — where glamour and chaos often collide, and safety is the first casualty.
