In order to curb pollution, NGT directs Centre, state governments against buying diesel vehicles

New Delhi/ Nagpur: In a major step to curb pollution in Delhi, the Nation Green Tribunal (NGT) directed the Centre and state government not to buy any diesel vehicles for their departments. The NGT order is not applicable to private persons buying a diesel vehicle.

NGT submitted a report to the Delhi government on Thursday in which it was pointed out sale of diesel vehicles has been rising in Delhi. The report reveals that the transport department registered 6,748 more diesel vehicles in 2014 than 2013. In the first five months of 2015, it has registered 34,261 diesel vehicles, which is over 40% of the total number of registrations done in 2014.
