Nagpur: With delay in Southwest Monsoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted heat wave conditions all over Vidarbha till June 18. Though the maximum temperature in Vidarbha has been hovering from 41 to 43 degrees Celsius in the past few days, the minimum temperature is giving a bitter experience to citizens as it was marked above normal.
Normally, the onset date of monsoon in Vidarbha is June 15, but this year it got delayed by almost seven days. The pre-monsoon activity in the region is also very less this year. Meanwhile, humid weather is prevailing over Vidarbha that is raising discomfort among the citizens. This year, the maximum temperature also hardly crossed the 44 degrees Celsius mark in Vidarbha due to rains in the month of April and May. Even the weather department declared both months coolest ever.
Light to moderate rains are usual during pre-monsoon time, but this year two to three days of thunderstorms with one or two spells of rain were observed only in Nagpur city. On Thursday, Nagpur witnessed 42.0 degrees Celsius along with Bramhapuri (42.2 degrees Celsius), Chandrapur (42.2 degrees Celsius), and Wardha (42.0 degrees Celsius).
Other places like Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Washim and Yavatmal recorded the maximum temperatures below 42 degrees. However, the minimum temperature all over Vidarbha was on a higher side on Thursday. Bramhapuri (30.2 degrees Celsius), Chandrapur (30.2 degrees Celsius) and Wardha (30.0 degrees Celsius) recorded the minimum temperature above 30 degrees whereas other places recorded between 25.0 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
