Hyderabad man dupes city travel agent of Rs 7.94 lakh on pretext of exchanging US currency

Nagpur: A city travel agent was duped of Rs 7.94 lakh by a Hyderabad based con-man on the pretext of exchanging 12,000 US dollars with Indian currency.

According to police, accused identified as Chandu (43) introduced himself as a garments exporter to the complainant Ankush Mahesh Gover (30), a resident of Plot. No. 1, Purohit Lay-out, Ambazari in April, 2019. Chandu told Ankush that, he has 12,000 USD, which he wants to exchange with Indian currency. Following the round of calculations, Ankush suggested that he would pay him around Rs 8 lakh to Chandu against the dollars, to which he agreed.

On April 26, Chandu called Ankush and asked him to meet him at hotel Pride, with money. Ankush then went to meet him and paid him the amount in Indian currency. Chandu asked him to wait in his hotel room while he would get the dollars. When Chandu failed to return after a long time, Ankush called him on his cell phone which was switched-off. Following which Ankush went to reception to seek information about Chandu, only to find out that he had left the hotel.

Ankush then lodged a complaint with Ambazari police, who booked Chandu under Section 420 of the IPC and started the probe.
