Husband, in-laws booked for abetting woman’s suicide

Nagpur: Husband, in-laws and one other have been booked by Kalamna police on the charges of abetting suicide by a woman. The accused have been identified as Dhananjay Santosh Ninave (43, husband), Santosh Ninave (65, father-in-law), Sulochana Santosh Ninave (60, mother-in-law) and Renuka Kishore Rayakwad (37, sister-in-law).

The deceased Harsha Dhananjay Ninave (35), resident of House No. 44, Navkanya Nagar, Bharatwada in Kalamna area, on 29.3.2016 around 9 am, was warming water on a stove in the bathroom of her house. Suddenly the stove burst and the flames engulfed Harsha with her sari catching fire. She was taken to Mayo Hospital for treatment. However, she succumbed to her burn injuries at about 8.45 pm on 4.4.2016 during treatment. At that time, Kalamna cops had registered a case of accidental death and launched a thorough investigation.

The in-depth probe revealed that Harsha was subjected to torture, mentally as well as physically, by the accused husband, in-laws and sister-in-law. Fed up with the frequent harassment, Harsha ended her life by setting her ablaze on March 29.

Kalamna PSI S M Sonparote, on the basis of investigation and a complaint lodged by Kalavati Ramdas Khapekar (60) of Timki, booked the four accused under Sections 306, 34 of IPC. Further probe is under way.
