Hubby, four others set woman ablaze over dowry

Nagpur: A case of accidental death of a young married woman has turned out be the case of dowry victim with her husband and four others setting her ablaze in cold blood.

According to details, the deceased Masrat Jabin Firoze Khan (23), resident of Bengali Panja in Tehsil area, had got burnt on November 13 as the stove in which she was cooking food exploded. Masrat was rushed to Mayo Hospital and later to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital on Hingna Road. However, she succumbed to the burn injuries while undergoing treatment on November 21. The Tehsil cops at that time had registered a case of accidental death and mounted a thorough investigation.

The investigation revealed that Masrat had married Firoze Khan Nasir Khan (31) with traditional rituals. However, soon after the marriage, Firoze and his four other relatives namely Salida Nasir Khan (65), Afroz Nasir Khan (22), Dilshan Nasir Khan (40) and Naushad Nasir Khan (35) started demanding dowry money from Nasrat and her parents. Unable to meet the growing demand of dowry, Masrat was subjected to horrible mental and physical torture by her husband and four others. When the dowry-greedy accused were convinced that Masrat would not bring the money as demanded, they hatched a conspiracy. Accordingly, on November 13, the accused husband Firoze and four others poured kerosene oil on Masrat and set her ablaze. The statement of dying Masrat and other details nailed the heinous acts of the accused.

Tehsil Lady PSI Wadaskar, based on a complaint filed by Hussain Khan Saifulla Khan Pathan (58), resident of Teachers’ Colony, Ashthi, Wardha District, has now booked the accused Firoze Khan and four others under Sections 304(B), 34 of the IPC and probing the matter afresh.
