Heritage panel clears Metro Rail construction near Ambazari lake, KP beautification project presented

Nagpur: Heritage Conservation Committee has cleared the proposal of Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) to go ahead with construction of Metro Station and viaduct work near Ambazari lake.

Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal stated that even though Ambazari is a point of origin of Nag River but the river does not fall under Heritage Structure. The NMRCL did not undertake any construction work on Ambazari dam site and also did not violate the guidelines of Supreme Court. Therefore, Metro Rail can continue with their construction work of Station near Ambazari lake, he made it clear.

The Heritage Conservation Committee discussed several issues in the meeting. The committee allowed construction of community hall and residential building in premises of Saint John Public School, Gaddigodam. The committee did not find any objectionable issue in construction near ancient Buty well at Regal Talkies. The committee also discussed on objections raised by some people regarding historic legislative building. The committee had received objections on 49 heritage buildings deleted from the list of heritage buildings as per the directions of Supreme Court in January 2017. Municipal Commissioner directed administration to recall objections and suggestion on deleted 49 heritage structures within one month. A committee will be constituted to take a final call on objections and then it will be submitted to State Government for final decision.

The committee also discussed the proposal of Shewalkar Developers regarding Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) of ancient Kalyaneshwar Temple, Telangkhedi. Commissioner directed to take final decision after detailed discussion on this issue.

The committee also discussed regarding misuse of historic and grade-I heritage open ground Kasturchand Park. Recently, the High Court has restricted the use of this ground and directed local body to remove the encroachment on suo-moto public interest litigation (PIL) . Noted Architect Ashok Mokha gave presentation before the Commissioner regarding development and beautification of KP ground.

Mokha said, the KP ground will have a big logo of Smart City, Open Theater, Cycle Track, Jogging Track, food park, public toilets also. The beautification plan will maintain the heritage sanctity of the ground. Structural Engineer P S Patankar, Superintending Engineer S P Paseband, Rajiv Yelkawar, Parag Date, Additional Commissioner Dr. Ramnath Sonwane, Deputy Commissioner Jayant Dandegaokar, and Assistant Director Supriya Thool were present in the meeting.
