Heritage development committee meeting concluded

DSC_0152Nagpur: The heritage development committee’s meeting, under the purview of Maharashtra government’s GR, dated September 6, 2014, issued by Town Development Department, to protect and develop the buildings/ monuments/ places of archeological significance, was held at 11 am on Aug 7, 2015, informed a press-note issued by PRO, NMC.

The meeting was presided by committee president Arun Patankar (IAS, Rtd.) in the prominent presence of Addl Dy commissioner Pramod Bhusari, NIT SE Sunil Gujjalwar, structural engineer PS Patankar, L A D College principal Ujjawala Chakradeo, RTM Nagpur University’s HoD, History Shubha Johari, curator Dr Chirag Sontakke, NMC town planning assistant director D M Mehar, Supriya Thool, Prof Nita Tambe, SDO Mahesh Gupta and others.

Patankar seriously viewed the non-submission of the required information on North and East parts of High Court Building. The main building of Nagpur High Court is placed on heritage category one in the heritage list (Sr No. 12), and the heights of its eastern and northern walls were to be raised for security reasons. The executive engineer PWD Division No. 1, Sadar, Nagpur vide his letter dated 2.4.2015 had already accorded sanction for work. But, as the work’s computer generated 3-D view drawing was not submitted in the meeting, the president was not happy. He however directed the officials concerned to immediately submit the document.

Other subjects like installation of Chhatrapti Shivaji Maharaj statue at the centre of Gandhi Sagar Lake, appointment of advisor for Gandhi Sagar Lake on the pattern of Gujarat, LAD College’s proposed G+1 construction work, raising the height of national Flag-post and its installation at Kasturchand Park instead of Futala, heritage walk and separate account for heritage fund, etc, were tabled and discussed in the meeting.

The next meeting of the committee will be held on August 17.
