Nagpur: In response to rising temperatures, the district administration has announced a precautionary closure of all educational institutions across the district. The decision comes after the India Meteorological Department issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for a possible heatwave on April 18, 2026.
Acting on the warning, District Collector Kumar Ashirwad has invoked powers under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to declare a holiday on Saturday for all anganwadis, primary and secondary schools, colleges, and coaching classes in the district.
Officials noted that temperatures in Nagpur have been steadily rising, raising concerns about potential health risks, particularly for students. The administration clarified that the decision has been taken as a preventive measure to ensure student safety.
Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority has urged residents to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary. Citizens have also been advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.
