Nagpur: A shocking and tragic incident came to light on Friday morning in the Venkatesh Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Nandanvan Police Station, sending waves of grief and concern across the locality. A mother and her daughter were found dead after allegedly dying by suicide in their home. Police have recovered two separate suicide notes from the scene, adding complexity to the case, which is currently under investigation.
The deceased have been identified as 52-year-old Sangeeta Dhabale and her 29-year-old daughter, Akanksha Brahme. According to initial information, Sangeeta had been working as a teacher with the Zilla Parishad following the death of her husband around ten years ago. Akanksha had previously been employed at a bank but had left her job some time ago.
Akanksha was married to an engineer named Lokesh about two years ago. Tragically, the couple lost their newborn baby two months ago. Following this loss, Akanksha had been staying with her mother at their residence in Venkatesh Nagar.
Sources indicate that Lokesh had visited his in-laws’ house on Thursday night, where an argument reportedly took place between the couple. He later left the house. On Friday morning, when Akanksha did not respond to his calls, Lokesh returned to the residence. Upon peering through a window, he reportedly saw both women hanging, after which he immediately alerted the police.
Police officials reached the spot, took both bodies into custody, and sent them for post-mortem examination. An accidental death report has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
According to police sources, one of the suicide notes, written by Sangeeta, mentions that she took the extreme step of her own will. In a separate note, Akanksha reportedly expressed her final wishes, stating that her body should not be handed over to her in-laws and that her last rites should be performed at the same place as her father’s.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased have made serious allegations against Akanksha’s husband and his family, accusing them of subjecting both women to ongoing mental harassment over a property dispute. They have demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.
Police have stated that the case is being examined from all angles, and further action will be taken once the facts are fully established.
