Harsh Vardhan returns to his clinic, quits politics

Former Union Health Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk Harsh Vardhan on Sunday announced his retirement from politics after 30 years of electoral career, adding that he is returning to his ENT clinic in Krishna Nagar in the east. Delhi returns.

Harsh Vardhan, who was in charge of the Chandni Chowk constituency, replaced Praveen Khandelwal, an activist trader.

In a post on social media website X, Vardhan said, “After thirty years of a proud electoral career during which I have won all five assembly and two parliamentary elections contested with exemplary privileges and held many prestigious posts. in the party organization and governments in the state and center, I will finally bow down to return to my roots.”

The development came a day after the BJP announced the first list of Lok Sabha candidates for the upcoming elections, including five for Delhi. Vardhan, who was elected from the Chandni Chowk constituency, replaced Praveen Khandelwal, a trader activist.

Earlier on Saturday, East Delhi-based MP Gautam Gambhir also told X that he had requested party national president JP Nadda to relieve him of political duties as he wanted to focus on cricket commitments. Similarly, Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) MLA Jayant Sinha also requested Nadda to relieve him so that he can focus on fighting global climate change.

“Without regret, I must say that it was a wonderful period during which my desire to serve the common man was quenched. I have served twice as the Health Minister of Delhi and also as the Union Health Minister… I had the rare opportunity to first work towards creating a polio-free India and then take care of the health of millions of our countrymen who are struggling with it. . The dreaded Covid-19 in its first and second stages,” Vardhan wrote.

“I must admit that I consider it a great privilege to work closely with the most dynamic Prime Minister in the history of India, Shri Narendra Modi. The country wishes him a heroic return to power. I will continue my work against tobacco and drug addiction, against climate change and teaching a simple and sustainable lifestyle… My ENT clinic in Krishna Nagar is also waiting for my return,” he concluded in the post.

He has served as Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Minister of Science and Technology, and Minister of Earth Sciences. He also represented East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar as a Member of Parliament from 1993 to 2014.

Commenting on Atishi, Delhi Minister said that Vardhan is known for his honesty, hard work and public speaking. “If Dr Vardhan’s ticket has been cut, it is clear that he has been disqualified, perhaps out of integrity … just as he was removed from the post of health minister for raising some issues,” Atishi said.
