Nagpur: With the local body elections in Maharashtra fast approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has kicked off preparations for the upcoming Nagpur Legislative Council Graduate Constituency elections. The party has set an ambitious target of registering seven lakh graduate voters, assigning this responsibility to all office-bearers across the organization.
However, reports suggested that some workers were not taking the registration campaign seriously. To reinvigorate the drive, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari personally submitted their registration forms, giving a strong push to the initiative. Their participation has infused new enthusiasm among party workers, and plans are now underway to accelerate the campaign at the organizational level.
Senior BJP leaders have instructed that, after Diwali, all focus must be on voter registration. Taking lessons from the previous election defeat, the party aims to ensure there is no complacency this time.
Former MLA Sudhakar Kohale has been appointed as the chief in-charge of the graduate voter registration campaign, with Sudhir Dive serving as co-in-charge. Kohale stated, “We are determined to complete the registration of seven lakh graduate voters this time. Every party worker must take this responsibility seriously.”
BJP has also issued clear directives to potential candidates for local body elections to collect the maximum number of voter applications, warning that negligence in this task would not be tolerated. The issue was reportedly raised in a recent high-level meeting where leadership expressed dissatisfaction over laxity among some members.
At a recently held Vidarbha-level meeting in Nagpur, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized the importance of graduate voter registration. Upon his return to Nagpur, he personally filled out the form, marking the formal start of the campaign.
The event was attended by Sudhakar Kohale, Sudhir Dive, Dayashankar Tiwari, Girish Deshmukh, Shrikant Aglave, Narendra Borkar, Vishnu Changde, and Ritesh Gawande.
Speaking on the occasion, Fadnavis asserted, “Graduate voter registration is not a mere formality. Every party worker must treat it as a duty, especially focusing on reaching out to young voters.”
With this move, the BJP has clearly signaled its intention to reorganize and strengthen its base ahead of the crucial Graduate Constituency elections.
