Nagpur: The Shantinagar Police in Nagpur have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly threatening a shopkeeper for extortion, abusing him, and forcibly taking goods from nearby shops in the Shantinagar area.
According to police, the complainant, Sandeep Shankarlal Mehar (42), a resident of Plot No. H/1, VHB Colony, Shantinagar, Nagpur, runs a shop named Shankar General Stores at Shantinagar Ghat Square within the jurisdiction of Shantinagar Police Station.
On October 20, 2025, between 12:00 noon and 12:30 pm, the accused Pradeep Durvasingh Thapa (38), a resident of Shantinagar Ghat Square, entered Mehar’s shop and allegedly threatened him saying, “If you want to run your shop here, you must pay me Rs 20,000 per month, or I will kill you.” He also hurled obscene abuses at the shopkeeper.
After issuing the threat, the accused reportedly abused the owner of a neighbouring sweet shop and forcibly took away a packet of sweets. He then went to Raju Sharma’s firecracker shop, abused him as well, and allegedly snatched firecrackers worth Rs 4,000.
Based on Mehar’s complaint, Woman PSI Geeta Raskar registered an offence at the Shantinagar Police Station under Sections 308(3), 308(5), and 296 of the BNS. Acting swiftly, the police traced and arrested the accused Pradeep Durvasingh Thapa (38).
Further investigation is underway.
