Good news: Nagpur set to get Vande Bharat trains on Mumbai, Pune routes soon

Nagpur: In a major boost to long-distance rail travel, Nagpur is set to welcome two more Vande Bharat Express trains, enhancing connectivity with Mumbai and Pune. The proposal for introducing Vande Bharat trains on these routes has been submitted to the Railway Board, and a decision is expected soon.

During a recent press conference, Vinayak Garg, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, had highlighted Nagpur’s strategic importance in the railway network. He stated, “Nagpur Division plays a crucial role in passenger movement, with over 125 trains operating in all directions. Our focus remains on safety, passenger comfort, and efficiency.”

Current Vande Bharat services from Nagpur:

• Nagpur-Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express

• Nagpur-Indore Vande Bharat Express

• Nagpur-Bhopal Vande Bharat Express

Proposed new routes:

• Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat Express

• Nagpur-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express

Both the Nagpur-Pune and Nagpur-Mumbai routes witness heavy passenger traffic. Due to limited train services, waiting lists for these routes start filling up nearly three months in advance. Many passengers are forced to rely on alternative modes of travel, such as rental cars and buses, leading to higher costs and inconvenience.

With the introduction of high-speed Vande Bharat trains, travel time is expected to reduce significantly. At present, Nagpur-Pune connectivity is limited to:

• Nagpur-Pune Superfast Express (3 times a week)

• Garib Rath Express (3 times a week)

• Humsafar Express (once a week)

• Azad Hind Express & Hatia-Pune Superfast Express.

Meanwhile, Nagpur-Mumbai has only two direct trains:

1. Vidarbha Express (Gondia-Mumbai route)

2. Sewagram Express

Regular passengers often face long wait times for ticket bookings, and the situation worsens during festivals. The proposed Vande Bharat Express, with semi-high-speed capabilities, will provide much-needed relief, improving connectivity and reducing travel time significantly.
