Gold valuer, another man arrested for defrauding bank with fake jewellery

The gold valuer and another accused who were booked on the charges of mortgaging fake gold in a cooperative bank for procuring loan were arrested. Both the accused were produced in a court and sent to police custody remand till June 5.

A resident of Trimurti Nagar, the accused gold valuer Pravin Suresh Rotkar (39) works with Arvind Sahakari Bank situated at Radke Layout, Hingna Road, MIDC. On Wednesday, Rotkar, in connivance with another accused Naresh Umakant Umale (44) of Trimurti Nagar, certified fake gold as genuine and mortgaged it with the cooperative bank with the intention of procuring a loan. The cheating and betrayal on the part of accused gold valuer came to the notice of the bank. A complaint in this regard was lodged with MIDC police.


API P M Kale has registered a case against the two accused under Sections 406, 420, 511, 34 of the IPC. Further probe is underway.

The action was carried out by PI Sunil Mahadik, APIs Pravin Kale, API Prabhakar Shiurkar, constables Pappu Yadav, Vijay Nemade, Sepoy Mangesh Lanjewar under the guidance of DCP Zone 1 Smartna Patil, and ACP Rajratan Bansod.
