Ganja worth Rs 5.54 lakh seized, drug peddler arrested

Acting swiftly on the inputs, the Anti-Narcotics Squad of Crime Branch raided a hut in Ekta Colony Slums in Yashodhara Nagar area and seized a huge quantity of marijuana (ganja) worth Rs 5.54 lakh. A drug peddler has also been arrested in this connection.

On Friday, the Anti-Narcotics Squad of Crime Branch received information that marijuana in a big quantity has been hidden in a tin hut situated at Ekta Colony and that the narcotic stuff was being moved within 15-20 minutes. Acting swiftly, the Squad reached the spot within no time and swooped on the hut. The cops recovered over 55 kg of ganja worth Rs 5.54 lakh from the spot. They also arrested the drug peddler named Mohd Rafiq Mohd Salim (50) from whose hut the marijuana was seized. However, an accomplice of the accused drug peddler named Sheru Ali managed to escape.

The accused was booked under Sections 20, 29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS ) Act 1985 and placed under arrest.

The action was carried out by by Senior PI Deepak Khobragade, PI Girish Tathod, API Devendra Vanjari, PSI Narendra Giri, police constables Datta Bagul, Pravin Fandade, Vithoba Kale, NPCs Satish Patil, Tulshi Shukla, Kishore Mahant, Nitin Salunke and woman police constable Rubina Sheikh.
