Gadkari elected chief patron of volleyball association

Nagpur: Union minister Nitin Gadkari has been unanimously elected as the chief patron of Maharashtra Sate Volleyball Association. The decision was taken during a meeting held at Dhapoli village in Ratnagiri recently, informed president of the association Vijay Dangre.

“I have made a written request to Union minister Nitin Gadkari to accept the post of chief patron of Maharashtra Sate Volleyball Association. He accepted by request and agreed to hold the key post,” Dangre said.

The information about Gadkari’s accepting the request was announced during the meeting. All the members present at the meet, unanimously elected him as the chief patron, he added.

Besides several other important decisions were taken at the meeting. Vidarbha’s national volleyball player and national referee Anjali Rahane Patil, Deodatta Patil (Jalgaon), Satish Pathak (Aurangabad), Atul Tawde (Mumbai) were elected as co-op member of the Maharashtra Sate Volleyball Association, informed Dangre.

The executive body of the volleyball association also retained Akola’s Sahebrao Thakre as the coordinator.

Besides, Nashik’s Ramdas was appointed as the coordinator of talent search committee.

Meanwhile, it was decided in the meeting to organise national youth volleyball in Nagpur. “We have decided to hold youth volleyball national in Nagpur. The tournament will be organised in January next year,” he said adding that the tournament will be played at Chitnis Park.

The tournament will be played in three age groups- Under 14, Under-16 and Under-21. The U-14 tournament will be held in Palghar while U-16 will be played in Nagpur. U-21 tournament will be played in Dhule.
