Nagpur: “Halki Halki Barish Ho, Ek Beer Ki Botal Ho, Garam Garam Chakna Ho, Toh Fir Aur Kya Chahiye”, opined a youngster who was sitting with his friends at a vantage point of Futala Lake. The flamboyance in the statement holds true in terms of the scenario at this widely frequented family as well as dating spot of Nagpur. And with the rains, more youths tempt towards this spot with their handful of ‘quota’.
Many youths get beer bottles to the spot and empty them sitting right on the parapet wall near the waters and eat hot goodies available at Lake side restaurants and hotels. The youth do not have to go very far to procure the beer bottles. There is a beer shop named Zero Degree, right at the corner when one enters from Amravati Road. One simply has to go there and procure the beer bottles from the beer shop wrapped in newspapers and come here and enjoy the chilled stuff.
When it rains or drizzles, the cops too seek some shelter and stay there till the rain abates.
Nagpur Today saw Futala Lake water beneath the entire embankment (safety wall) strewn with beer and liquor bottles.
While speaking to Nagpur Today, Police Sub Inspector M R Pande of the Traffic Branch attached with Ambazari Police Station said that the traffic policemen keep a strict vigil and anyone driving under the influence of liquor are promptly checked and penalized.
However, many conscientious citizens have expressed their displeasure at the kind of police action of the youth today.
