Nagpur: In a freak mishap, a woman was killed and her husband injured as the Activa moped they were riding in hit a railway engine at a crossing in Kalamna area here on Sunday night.
A resident of Quarter No. 31021, near CRPF Gate, Hingna Road, Lekhram Motiram Dhiman (65) and his wife Maya Lekhram Dhiman (50) were returning home from Kamptee Road on their Activa moped (MH-40/AV 4413) around 9.45 pm on Sunday.
Midway, while they were passing through Rajiv Gandhi Nagar Railway Crossing on Kamptee Road, their Activa rammed a railway engine. Lekhram could not spot the railway engine due to darkness as well lights of the engine were off.
As a result, Lekhram fell on the other side but his wife Maya came under the railway engine and suffered critical injuries. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital but the doctors referred her to Seven Star Hospital at Jagnade Square. However, Maya succumbed to her injuries around 1.30 am of Monday while undergoing treatment.
Kalamna PSI M V Jadhav has registered a case of accidental death and started investigations.
