Nagpur: A 51-year-old woman was allegedly duped of Rs 25,000 after a fraudster swapped her ATM card under the pretext of helping her withdraw cash at an ATM kiosk in Nagpur’s Shantinagar area.
The incident took place at the HDFC Bank ATM located opposite Shantinagar Garden within the jurisdiction of Shantinagar Police Station.

According to police, the woman had visited the ATM to withdraw money when an unidentified man, believed to be around 35 years old, stood behind her. Investigators suspect the accused secretly observed the victim while she entered her ATM PIN.
When the cash could not be withdrawn, the man allegedly offered to assist her. Taking advantage of the situation, he took the woman’s ATM card in his hand and allegedly swapped it with another card without her knowledge before returning the fake card to her.
Unaware that her original ATM card had been replaced, the woman left the ATM kiosk. It was only later, after checking her bank account, that she discovered Rs 25,000 had been withdrawn through unauthorized transactions. She then realized she had fallen victim to an ATM card swap fraud.
Based on the victim’s complaint, Shantinagar Police have registered a case against the unidentified accused and launched an investigation.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the ATM kiosk and nearby areas to identify and trace the suspect. Further investigation is underway.
Officials have advised bank customers to remain vigilant while using ATMs, avoid accepting assistance from strangers, shield the keypad while entering their PIN, and immediately verify their card before leaving the kiosk.
