Nagpur: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Nagpur City Police conducted a series of operations resulting in the seizure of contraband worth lakhs and the arrest of four drug peddlers. The operations were carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) and the Social Security Branch (SSB) in different areas of the city.
In the first case, during routine patrolling in the Nandanvan area, ANC officers arrested Piyush Sanjay Borkar (19), who was found in possession of 21.11 gram of Mephedrone (MD) powder valued at Rs 2,11,100. His accomplice, Rakesh Giri, managed to evade capture. A case has been registered at Nandanvan police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The second operation, based on intelligence, led ANC officials to raid a location in Bhande Plot Square at Sakkardara. Vicky Ramesh Dubey (29), was caught with 396 gram of Ganja (Marijuana), which had an estimated value of Rs 7,920 His accomplice, Subham Vishnuji Chakram, fled before the police arrived. A case has been registered at Sakkardara Police Station under the NDPS Act.
In the third case, SSB officers discovered a suspicious motorcycle in Beltarodi. Upon investigation, Nikhil Jagdish Goenka (33), a resident of Kotwali, Amravati and Shiekh Shahid Sheikh Anwar (33), a resident of Gandhibagh, were found in possession of 13.80 gram of MD Powder, valued at Rs 1,38,000. Their accomplice Pankaj Prabhakar Sathawane, a resident of HB Town Square, managed to escape. The police seized items totalling Rs 2,35,300, including a mobile phone and a Suzuki Bergman moped. The accused have been handed over to Beltarodi Police, with a case filed under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal, the arrest was made by PI Gajanan Gulhane, API Siddharth Patil, and staff including Shailesh Dobole, Manoj Neware, Vivek Adau, Pawan Gajbhiye, Rashid Sheikh, Subhash Gajbhiye, Sheshrao Rewatkar, Rohit Kale, Anup Kale, WPI Kavita Isarkar, PSI Mahendra Thote, and staff Sachin Badiye, Prakash Mathankar, Anil Ambade, Ajay Paunikar, Sheshrao Raut, Ashwin Mange, Sameer Sheikh, Nitin Wasne, Kunal Masram, Kamlesh Kshirsagar and Lata Gavai.
