Nagpur: Under the city police’s ongoing “Operation Shakti,” an initiative launched to dismantle human trafficking networks and curb commercial sexual exploitation, a team from the Crime Branch’s Social Security Department and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Nagpur Police conducted a raid at a hotel on Wardha Road late Thursday evening, rescuing one woman and arresting a key accused.
According to police, between 5:45 pm on November 20 and 2:00 am on November 21, 2025, the teams were patrolling for suspects when they received reliable information about prostitution being facilitated at The Imperial Green Hotel in Somalwada Chowk, within the jurisdiction of Sonegaon Police Station.
Acting on the tip-off, officers conducted a raid in the presence of panch witnesses. During the operation, they apprehended Rajesh alias Amit Tarachand Dongarwar (50), a resident of Samaj Bhushan Society, Manish Nagar, Nagpur. Police said he was caught red-handed providing rooms to customers for prostitution for his personal financial gain and forcing the victim woman into commercial sex work.
During interrogation, Dongarwar revealed that he operated the racket in collusion with two wanted accomplices identified as Raja, a resident of Raipur, and a woman known as Kavya Didi. The accused allegedly lured women with promises of quick and high earnings and then coerced them into prostitution.
Police rescued one victim woman from the spot. They also seized cash of Rs 8,000, a mobile phone, a motorcycle, a DVR unit, and other materials, collectively valued at around Rs 81,520.
A case has been registered at Sonegaon Police Station under Sections 143(2)(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA). The arrested accused and the seized items have been handed over to Sonegaon Police for further action.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Paradeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil. The team was led by PI Rahul Shire, Woman PI Lalita Todase, and their staff.
