Five persons, including wife of CRM of New India Assurance G K Patil, die in road accident

Nagpur News: Five persons, hailing from Nagpur, were killed on the spot, and four others were injured seriously, when the car they were travelling in, collided head on with a truck in Karnataka.

According to reports reaching Nagpur, G. K. Patil, Chief Regional Manager, the New India Assurance Co. Ltd. Regional Office, Nagpur, was proceeding to attend the marriage of his relative along with his wife, nephew and other close family members.

However, the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in which the Chief Regional Manager and his relatives were travelling, collided head on with a sugarcane laden truck near Mahagaon crossing on the National Highway connecting Jewargi with Humnabad around 1.00 am on Friday.

The impact was so horrible that five occupants of the SUV, including wife and nephew of Patil, died on the spot and four others received serious injuries.  Patil is also seriously injured in the accident but his condition is stable and out of danger.
The SUV was turned into the mangled heap of steel due to the impact. The injured have been shifted to the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger. The driver of the truck escaped the spot.
The victims were returning to Basavakalyan in Bidar district after attending a marriage in Gulbarga city when the accident took place.
