Nagpur: Ajni Police have registered a serious fraud case against five persons for allegedly cheating a man and his woman acquaintance of Rs 25 lakh on the pretext of securing jobs in the Railway Department.
According to police, the complainant Anupam Rajgupta Meshram (42), a resident of Line No. 9, Haridas Nagar in Lashkaribagh, came in contact with the main accused Pradeep Venkatarav Bhoyar, a resident of Sai Nivas in Dwarkapuri, Parvatinagar, Ajni, while working together in a private company.
Police said Bhoyar gained Meshram’s trust by claiming that he had strong connections with senior officials in the Railways and could arrange jobs for anyone through his contacts. To strengthen his claim, Bhoyar allegedly introduced Meshram to another accused Ajay Kawduji Bhoyar, who resides in Arihant Apartment, Vanjari Nagar under Ajni Police Station limits.
During meetings held at Ajay Bhoyar’s residence, the two accused, along with their associates Karuna Pradeep Chaudhary, Rahul Shende, and Madhukar Uke, allegedly hatched a plan to cheat the victims by promising government jobs.
Police said that between July 27, 2023 and April 10, 2026, the accused collected Rs 10 lakh from Meshram after assuring him that they would secure him a job in the Railway Department. They also allegedly took Rs 15 lakh from a woman known to the complainant, Vaishnavi Ghatode, a resident of Jaitala in Pratap Nagar, under the same pretext.
To make the scheme appear genuine, the accused allegedly issued a fake appointment letter to the complainant and even arranged a medical examination, creating the impression that the recruitment process was underway. However, despite repeated assurances, no job was provided.
When Meshram later demanded his money back, the accused allegedly refused to return the amount and instead threatened to kill him, police said.
Investigators said the accused dishonestly deceived the complainant and the woman, breached their trust, and fraudulently obtained a total of Rs 25 lakh without delivering on their promises.
Based on Meshram’s complaint, Ajni Police have registered a case under Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The offence was registered by Woman PSI Pushpanjali Jambhale, and further investigation into the scam is currently underway.
