Fire staff remained prompt on Diwali day, 20 incidents, none hurt

Nagpur: A major fire accident was averted in Daga Layout, on Diwali, after timely response by Fire Services and Emergency Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). An alert Fire department had also controlled 20 small and medium fire incidents in and around Orange city on occasion of Diwali . Fortunately causalities were not reported in the incidents.

As per information shared by Fire Department, the team of fire fighters had controlled a major fire near Skating Rink at Daga Layout. The fire was broken out in a building leased out by Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) near Skating rink for a restaurant. The building was earlier used as administrative office. However, local residents had opposed the opening of restaurant in residential area and demolition team of Trust had razed temporary sheds within the premises constructed by using wooden materials. However, the restaurant owner did not remove the wooden material from the premises. On Diwali, the fire broke out after a misdirected cracker landed on wooden materials.

Meanwhile, Daga Nagar Nagrik Mandal President Chandrapal Chouksey immediately informed to Fire Department about the incident. Fire tenders reached instantly in Daga Layout to control over it. The timely intervention of department had saved properties worth crores of rupees from blazing.

Meanwhile, Fire Department team had also averted fire incidents at Dharampeth Traffic Park, where an LPG Cylinder catches fire near Y Point.

The fire had damaged property worth of Rs 25,000. The team also controlled fire at Vyankatesh Temple, near Devadia. In an another incident, the team also rescued 12 men and two women from first floor of Kelkar Manav Hospital, near Subhas Nagar Road in fire incident. The fire broke out due to short circuit. The department saved properties worth of Rs 25 lakh from blaze. The team also controlled fire that broke out at Abhyankar Nagar, VNIT square and also at Krida Square, near Hanuman Nagar.

The fire incidents were also reported in Sadar Chhaoni Masjid, Pranav Apartment, Pande Layout, near Gaysons, Sitabuldi, near Rajiv Gandhi Hall, Residence Hospital near Wardhaman Nagar, Police Quarters near Gandhibagh garden, in Motibagh at Panchpaoli Railway Gate, near Gitanjali Talkies, and at Gorewada Filter Plant. The team of Fire Department had controlled the incidents of fire despite shortage of man power.The department has cancelled leave of fire fighters and also deployed trainees to help in controlling the incidents.
