Nagpur: A female sportsperson who participated in National-Level competitions was physically and mentally harassed by her in-laws for money, leading her to finally file a police complaint with Gittikhadan Police Station.
The victim, who resides in her husband’s house, lodged the complaint, prompting the police to register a case against her husband and in-laws. The fact that even sportswomen are being subjected to this type of harassment, which was previously limited to doctors, engineers, and government officials, is a matter of concern.
The victim got married eight years ago, and after a few years, her husband and mother-in-law began pressuring her to bring money from her parents. Her husband required funds for his business, while her mother-in-law needed it to pay off debts.
Her husband would return home drunk and physically assault her, even in front of their children. He also began to abuse her and make derogatory comments about her character, as she worked in a government job and occasionally returned home late.
The harassment did not stop there. Her husband even followed her to her workplace and harassed her female colleagues. A year ago, he beat her and threw her out of the house.
She went to her paternal home, and when she returned to her husband’s house to collect her belongings, her mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and his wife beat her and demanded that she return the money.
Finally, the woman had enough and filed a complaint at the Gittikhadan police station. The police have registered a case in this regard.
