FDA raids paan stalls, seizes banned tobacco stuff worth Rs 61,395

Acting on information that the banned gutkha, panmasala, scented tobacco, scented kharra are being sold by paan stalls in city, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspectors carried out searches at 28 paan stalls in Reshimbagh Square, Manewada Square, Medical Square, Tukdoji Square, Chhota Tajbagh, Gaddigodam, Jaripatka and other areas. The FDA inspectors seized the banned stuff worth Rs 61,395 from eight paan stalls.

Despite ban on sale of gutkha, panmasala, scented tobacco, scented kharra is being done by several paan stalls.

The search drive was undertaken by Food Safety Officer Sheetal Deshpande, Seema Surkar, Abhay Deshpande, Manoj Tiwari, Anand Mahajan, Pravin Umap, Vinod Dhawad, Lalit Soyam, Raviraj Dhabarde, Kiran Gedam, Gulabsingh Vasave, Anant Chaudhary, Amitkumar Uplap under the guidance of Assistant Commissioners (Food) Shashikant Kekre and Motiram Pawar.
