Nagpur: A man, his son, and brother-in-law were killed in a road accident when an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle, while they were travelling on the Saoner-Pandhurna highway near Bhagemahari in Khapa Police Station area near Nagpur on Monday morning.
According to police, Shivaji Parasram Sirsam (38), a resident of Wandli (Wagh) village in Katol tehsil, was riding with his 10-year-old son Lalit and Lalit’s maternal uncle Anil Ramesh Iwnati (40), who lived in Parsodi (Dikshit), Narkhed. They were en route to attend the funeral of Ramkali Dhanraj Sirsam in Jatamkhora village when the accident occurred. An unknown vehicle collided with their motorcycle (MH-40/CV6151) which caused all three to fall onto the road, and they sustained severe head injuries. Lalit and Shivaji died on the spot, while Anil was transported to Government Hospital at Saoner. Anil also succumbed to his injuries shortly after he was brought to the hospital.
Upon receiving information of the incident, Police Inspector Anil Raut and HC Mangesh Dharapure arrived at the scene with their team. Following the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the families.
Kelwad Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved.
Despite state-wide strong sentiments brewing against rising hit-and-run cases, there has been a spike in such cases in the city as well as rural areas.
Reports said a local civic body office-bearer from Saoner too had died in a road accident on the same stretch. Local police officials also expressed concern about the accidents and the lack of CCTV surveillance plaguing the investigation.
Apart from senior officials, a private NGO also visited the spot to conduct a thorough analysis of the accident and submit it to the police department. Without any eyewitness or CCTV surveillance, the cops are now dependent upon the NGO report to gauge how the accident might have taken place. SP, Nagpur rural, Harssh A Poddar said the Kelvad police and another independent squad have been sent to investigate the case and try to zero in on the culprit.
