Nagpur: More BJP Corporators who have been living on their whims and fancies in terms of paying power bills are now falling in line. Even as SNDL snapped power connection of few netas after the news about them defaulting on the electricity bills surfaced in the media, five more BJP corporators — Sushma Chaudhari, Chetna Tank, Manoj Chafle, Manisha Atkare and Kalpana Kumbhalkar — cleared their dues on Thursday to avoid disconnection.

SNDL had disconnected two Congress corporators — Bunty Shelke and Kamlesh Chaudhari — on Wednesday. When it went to disconnect eight other corporators they paid up.

A source in SNDL said that Sushma Chaudhari owed Rs72,000 to SNDL as she had not paid her bills since October 2015. “She had promised to do part payment on Wednesday but then changed her mind. When we went to her place for disconnection she paid us Rs30,000 and promised to pay remaining Rs42,000 with the next bill,” he added.

Manoj Chafle, who owes Rs68,500 to SNDL made a part payment of Rs11,000 and promised to pay the remaining amount in instalment. Manisha Atkare cleared her entire dues of Rs7,900. So did Chetna Tank, who paid Rs45,360, and Kalpana Kumbhalkar by paying Rs6,600.

The source said that SNDL was not targeting corporators but was disconnecting them under its regular arrears recovery drive. “We have disconnected over 5,000 defaulters this month and the exercise will continue,” he added.
