Nagpur:
A gang of conmen, posing as cops, tricked and robbed three senior citizens of gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 2.15 lakh in separate incidents. Incidentally, the three aged victims were on morning walk and were duped by the fake cops within a span of two hours.

In the first incident, Madhukar Deorao Wankhede (72), a resident of Plot No. 1, Panchtara Society, Manish Nagar, was robbed of gold chain while he was on morning walk. Two motorcycle-borne goons aged 30-30 years approached Madhukar posing as cops near Mahajan flour mill. The two fake policemen told Wankhede to be careful as some criminals were on the prowl and looting senior citizens. With these scary words, the two bogus cops told Madhukar to keep his gold chain and ring worth Rs 60,000 safe in pocket. On the pretext of helping Wankhede wrap the gold stuff in a piece of cloth, the tricksters replaced it with some duplicate material. When Wankhede checked the valuables minutes after he reached home, he was shocked to find scrap in the cloth. He immediately reported the matter to Sonegaon police. PSI Sajid registered a case under Sections 420, 170, 34 of the IPC and launched a search to nab the fake cops.

Similarly, Vasudeo Ganpatrao Thool (73), resident of Gopal Nagar, near second bus stop, was relieved of gold chain and ring worth Rs 55,000. Thool also was on morning walk on cement road between Subhash Nagar Road and Mate Square when two men posing as cops stopped him. Using the same modus operandi, the duo robbed Thool of gold chain and ring and fled the spot. Bajajnagar PSI M K Sheikh booked the two bogus policemen under Sections 170, 419, 420, 34 of the IPC. The two bogus police are being hunted by cops.

In the third incident, Meena Ramesh Agasthi (70), resident of Plot No. 11, Sachhidanand Nagar, Hudkeshwar, was robbed of gold ring, bangles and mangalsutra worth Rs 1 lakjh by two persons who posed themselves as cops near Tukdoji Statue. Ajni Woman PSI Bhute registered an offence under Sections 170, 419 and 420 of the IPC against two unidentified persons and searching for them.
