Nagpur:
Trying to kill two birds with one stone today Maharashtra C.M. Devendra Fadnavis promoted both Nagpur oranges and cashless dealings by purchasing some oranges for Rs. 200/ from Morshi MLA Dr. Anil Bonde and paying by Paytm.

Morshi is a constituency 100 kms from Nagpur which consists of the town of Warud where the famous Nagpur oranges come from originally. Dr. Bonde is a medical practitioner who joined BJP just before the 2014 elections.

Reacting to this, NCP MLA Prakash Gajbhiye offered Bonde to purchase the same number of oranges by accepting cash of Rs. 1000.

By this spoof, he wanted to underline the fact that demonetization has played havoc with the price of Nagpur oranges.

This is the time of the year when the ‘Mrug bahar’ oranges ripen and come into the market. They are bigger and more juicy than the other harvest during summers when fruit is smaller and fetches less price.

Gajbhiye complained that the price of oranges has come down from Rs. 40,000 a ton to Rs. 12,000 only. This has made farmers of the area very despondent because they invest a lot of time and resources in Orange orchards and look forward to recovering their investment during this season.
