Excise Dept Busts Fake Liquor Unit in Besa

Nagpur: The State Excise Department, Nagpur Division, carried out a major crackdown on a fake liquor manufacturing unit operating from a row house in Besa under Hudkeshwar Police Station limits. The raid, conducted at Plot No. 38, Krishna Royal, New Hanuman Nagar, led to the seizure of duplicate country-made and foreign liquor along with production equipment worth a total of ₹11,93,082.

The action was executed on November 18 under the directives of State Excise Commissioner Rajesh Deshmukh, Joint Commissioner Prasad Surve, Deputy Commissioner Ganesh Patil, and Nagpur Excise Superintendent Surajkumar Ramod. A special flying squad was deployed for the operation.

During the raid, officials recovered 200 litres of spirit used for liquor production, 175 litres of blended foreign liquor, 513 bulk litres of fake country liquor, 10 litres of essence, counterfeit “Rocket” brand country liquor labels, empty bottles, plastic caps resembling Royal Stag packaging, sealing sheets, and other equipment. A two-wheeler used by the accused was also confiscated.

The raiding team arrested Manish Nandkishor Jaiswal (48) and Vishal Shambhu Mandal (28) from the spot, while other involved suspects are on the run. The operation was carried out by the divisional flying squad team led by Inspector Dashrath Kshirsagar, along with officers Jagdish Pawar, Milind Lambade, and Mangesh Kawale, supported by a team of excise personnel including Gajanan Rathod, Rahul Sapkal, Sudhir Mankar, Kiran Vaidh, Sachin Adole and Vinod Dumbare. Further investigation is being conducted by Inspector Dashrath Kshirsagar.

Authorities stated that due to rising prices of country-made and foreign liquor in Maharashtra, there is a growing possibility of illegal liquor being manufactured locally or smuggled from neighbouring states. Such counterfeit liquor can be toxic and hazardous to health. Illegal manufacturing, sale, or transportation of liquor is punishable under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949.
