Nagpur: In the Assembly Question Hour on Day-3 of Winter Session, BJP member Dr Milind Mane demanded setting up of Hospital and Research Center in North Nagpur for benefit of sickle cell patients.
In his reply, the Health Minister Dr Deepak Sawant informed the House that an ‘Excellence Center’ is soon to be set up in North Nagpur in the interest of sickle cell patients. He appreciated Dr Mane for his search for 7 and half acre land for the purpose.
According to Dr Mane, there are around 2.50 lakh sickle cell patients in the State. The maximum are in North Nagpur. Five of Vidarbha’s districts are worst affected by the disease. In all 1.50 sickle cell patients are spread over in 11 districts of the region. The patients had to get admitted in hospital 3-4 times a year. Each patient had to spend around Rs 8000 for treatment. Need is to make available medicines to these patients at cheaper rates. The sickle cell patients should also be included in Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana. Moreover, these patients should also be extended concession in ST fares, said Dr Mane.
