Nagpur: Former President of India Dr. Ramnath Kovind will be the chief guest at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) Vijayadashmi Utsav, scheduled for October 2 at Reshimbagh Ground. Marking its centenary year, the Sangh will celebrate 100 years of its foundation on Dussehra, with Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat delivering the keynote address. The programme will begin at 7.45 am.
Addressing the media at Dattopant Thengdi Sabhagruh on Monday, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar said that the centenary year would focus on five themes of social transformation — environmental protection, social harmony, self-reliance, family empowerment, and civic duty. To spread awareness, RSS will organise door-to-door campaigns, Hindu conferences, seminars for intellectuals, and social harmony meets.
Calling Dussehra a festival of valour and awakening of strength, Ambekar said the centenary year reflects Hindu society’s long journey towards peace and welfare. “The celebrations will begin with ‘Shastra Pujan’, followed by Vahini-wise ‘Pradakshina Sanchalan’, yoga displays, martial arts, and a Ghosh band performance,” he added.
Ambekar further stated that the RSS continues to grow in public faith, with ‘shakhas’ reaching remote corners of the country and attracting all sections of society. Also present on the dais were Vidarbha Prant Sanghchalak Deepak Tamashettivar and Nagpur Mahanagar Sanghchalak Rajesh Loya.
Triple Path Sanchalan on September 27
Breaking tradition, RSS will conduct its annual ‘Path Sanchalan’ (march-past) on September 27 instead of Vijayadashmi day. For the first time, three simultaneous processions will set off from Kasturchand Park, Yeshwant Stadium, and the hockey ground on Amravati Road, before converging at Variety Square, Sitabuldi, at 7.45 pm.
From a dais near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat will review the combined parade before contingents march back to their respective points. A senior functionary noted that the date was chosen as RSS’ very first march, under founder K.B. Hedgewar was held on September 27.
For the Vijayadashmi Utsav, swayamsevaks and citizens have been urged to assemble at their designated points by 7 am, while invited dignitaries have been requested to arrive 15 minutes earlier.
