Nagpur: The then Police Inspector of Sonegaon Police Station came in the line of fire of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court for assaulting an owner of hotel Papa Penchoo Oye. However, the PI Anil Bhaurao Patil, who was directed to be personally present in the court, instead rushed to IGMC Hospital (Mayo) complaining of high blood pressure apparently to escape possible strictures and further heat from the High Court.

A criminal writ petition was filed by Ankit Satishkumar Singh, a resident of Byramji Town in the city. During the hearing, Justice Bhushan Gavai and Justice PrasannaVarale at the High Court pulled up former PI at Sonegaon Police Station, Anil Bhaurao Patil, who was personally present in the court room. He was asked by the Court to remain present to suffer possible strictures and direction for action from the Court for manhandling the petitioner and assaulting him on June 14, 2015 at the Police Station. At 2.30 pm, the Court was informed that the PI could not remain present in the post-lunch session due to high blood pressure, and he has to go to the IGMCH for checkup and treatment. The intimation was accompanied with a letter from the hospital staff.

In the absence of PI Patil, it was stated on behalf of the police authorities that as the complaint of the petitioner of being manhandled by the Police Inspector has been found correct and inquiry has been already undertaken,  if the Court desires major action against him, the respondent DCP Zone I will be completing mandated disciplinary enquiry against him first and will submit report to the Court by the next date of hearing, after a week.

The officer concerned, who was at Sonegaon Police Station at the time of the incident, was transferred to Nashik as Dy SP Anti-Corruption Bureau. An FIR was registered against the petitioner under Section 68 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act 1949. The petitioner has also prayed for inquiry against Patil for filing false and frivolous complaint against him and also assaulting him.

In the submission on oath filed by the DCP Zone-1, Shailesh U Balkawade has submitted that in preliminary enquiry he has found that PI Patil was guilty of manhandling and assauldng the petitioner. In further action, the City Police Commissioner sent a communication on October 19, 2015 to ACB, Greater Mumbai and in response to that a punishment of stoppage of increment for one year has been imposed on him.
