New Delhi/Nagpur: A retired Armyman allegedly committed suicide over the issue of One Rank One Pension shceme (OROP) in the capital today.

Ram Kishan Grewal, who was protesting over the delay in the implementation of OROP scheme, committed suicide at the Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.

Grewal’s son told ANI that his father had called them on Tuesday night and informed about his decision to commit suicide because the government had failed to fulfil their demands related to OROP.

Grewal also left behind a suicide note in which he expressed extreme displeasure over being denied benefits of sixth and seventh pay commissions.

He also mentioned that the government has not been able to correct the discrepancy in pensions.

“People of the same rank are getting more pension than me. At least the government will wake up (after his suicide),” Grewal wrote in his suicide note.

He was rushed to RML Hospital from Jantar Mantar but the doctors declared him brought dead.

The 70-year-old ex-serviceman, a resident of Bumla village in Bhiwani, Haryana, has been protesting at Jantar Mantar for over a year now, demanding the implementation of OROP scheme which was earlier scrapped by the Indira Gandhi government.
