ESIC Team Visits MIA
Nagpur:
ESIC Team led by officiating Director P. Sudarshanan visited MIA to take views of Employees & Employers on proposed hike of eligibility limit from Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 25,000/-. The team was welcomed by President MIA Capt. C.M. Randhir P. Sudarshanan explained the benefits of ESIC Scheme in details. He also explained that under ease of doing business the department has suspended regular inspections and only random units are being visited. I PS limit for beneficiaries has been raised from 1500 to 2000 recently.

He also appraised the members present that all ESIS dispensaries are to be upgraded to 6 Bedded Medical care centers. Initially two dispensaries i.e. Somwaripeth and Ganeshpeth are to upgraded under this scheme because these two exist on ESIC owned Land. He accepted that there is acute shortage of Doctors and Para-medical Staff in ESIS Hospitals and fresh recruitments are being done to remove this anomaly. Govt. of Maharashtra has also created a state level corporation to bring improvement in ESIS services Tie-Up arrangements will also be taken up by this corporation.

Presently the AMO of ESIS has limited finance powers which are being raised for benefit of workers. Amount of pension in case of accidental death is also being raised to 90% of last pay drawn. A reference to recent Amnesty Scheme was also made by P. Sudarshanan wherein 64 cases were settled. The department is encouraging online facilities for benefit of Members.

A question / answer session was held and no. of workers explained about problems being faced by them. President MIA Appraised the visiting team about pathetic condition at ESIS Hospital and Dispensaries. Reimbursement cases are pending for years together, medicines are not available at dispensaries. Patients are being referred to Govt. Medical College even after hefty contribution from Employees and Employers. Tie up Hospitals are not treating patients for nonpayment of their bills. All this is happening because Central Govt. Body ESIC is collecting contribution and state body is responsible for treatment.

P. Sudarshanan wanted to know if the members present were willing for raising of limit from Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- by a Voice vote. All the members were of the view that facilities should be improved first and then there can be possibility of raising the limit. No. one was willing for raising of limit in present conditions.
