Nagpur: The clueless city police were searching the murder convict Shamal Dinesh Biswas who escaped from Nagpur Central Prison on Monday afternoon. Biswas, who was convicted in a murder case and serving life imprisonment, is still dodging the police net as cops are groping in dark on his whereabouts even after 24 hours of his escape.
According to sources, the prisoners, including Shamal, had gathered for lunch around 11.30 am in the open jail on Monday (February 27). The inmates, including Shamal, were on cleanliness job in open jail premises under the ‘watchful’ eyes of jail guard Shankar Pradhan. For lunch, the inmates were taken to a nearby garden of the jail.
However, during the counting of the prisoners held around 1.30 pm, he was Biswas not found. Pradhan immediately raised alarm and informed the higher officials of the prison. Initially, the jail authorities searched him in jail premises but when they could not trace him, they informed Dhantoli police about the escape.
The fugitive murder convict was earlier lodged in a Kolhapur jail, but was transferred to Nagpur Central Prison last year.
