A youth who attempted to kill himself after his parents turned down his demand to marry another girl out of his marriage, was arrested by MIDC Police. The incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday between 9.30 pm and 1 am.
Police informed that Sachin Hemraj Bananagre (26), a resident of Ekatmata Nagar, near Borkar Kirana stores, first locked himself in the kitchen of his residence. He unplugged the gas knob and tried to light a matchstick. He also strangled self with a rope and later stabbed himself with a knife kept in the kitchen. His family members’ timely intervention restrained Sachin from committing suicide and rushed him to hospital.
Hospital staff later informed MIDC police who reached the spot and registered an offence under Sections 309 and 506 (b) of the IPC against Sachin. He was later arrested after being discharged from the hospital.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sachin was married but had an extra marital affair with another girl. He confessed his love outside marriage and asked his parents to accept the girl. He requested them to let the girl stay in their house. However, Sachin’s mother Aashabai Hemraj Bananagre (45) refused to her son’s demand.
Enraged over this and in an attempt to convince his parents, Sachin attempted this stunt. However, his suicidal attempt was foiled when his family members saved him within time.
