The nagging problem of exorbitant examination fees of RTMNU has been putting the engineering students of the region in the dock every year. The students hit the streets on umpteen times demanding reduction in the examination fees but the RTMNU Administration failed to meet the students’ demand and provide justice to them.

Every examination is a stepping stone for students in order to climb the ladder of success in their future quest. But for engineering students of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), the examination, notwithstanding the importance, dents the pockets of them and their parents deeply. And it happens every semester.

The nagging problem of exorbitant examination fees of RTMNU has been putting the engineering students of the region in the dock every year. The students hit the streets on umpteen times demanding reduction in the examination fees but the RTMNU Administration failed to meet the students’ demand and provide justice to them. The pockets and hearts burn when the students and parents scan the examination fee structure of other Universities in Maharashtra.

The examination fees (per semester) of engineering course of RTMNU are far higher than other universities of  Maharashtra.  A comparison would show a huge difference, of course, on higher side. Other universities are charging Rs 500-1400 per semester whereas Nagpur University charges Rs 2200-2500 per semester.

In Vidarbha, RTMNU and Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University have engineering affiliated courses. Here also, the examination fees of the both universities, if compared, will show RTMNU charging very high fees. Amravati University charges Rs 1200-1400 examination fees annually. On the other hand, Nagpur University, for the same course, charges around Rs 4300-5000 per year.

The students in the past during their agitations against the RTMNU have raised this issue with the authorities. The RTNMU higher ups had assured the students of  looking into the matter and provide relief. But nothing has been done on this issue so far.

A large number of students, time and again, have been requesting Nagpur Today highlight this issue. And Nagpur Today, too, honoured their requests by flashing many reports in this regard.  Students feel that so much of examination fees is backbreaking burden to them.

Speaking to Nagpur  Today,  Ritesh Ambadkar said, “So much of examination fees. We don’t know where money is being utilized.”

Another engineering student, Abhishek Ingolikar, said, “I have only one subject back in 3rd and 4th semester, but only for one subject, we have to pay full examination fees of Rs 2200. Our parents get frustrated  due to this heavy  fees structure.”

Suraj Mankar  said, “Students are being systematically discouraged, especially the ones who cannot afford it.  Students coming from financially weaker backgrounds face tremendous pressure.”

Shreyaans Bagde, lamenting the RTMNU attitude, said “Why this injustice is being meted out to us is beyond our imagination. When all other universities including Mumbai and Pune, have been charging far less examination fees, why the RTMNU is showing it is different.”

The following table shows the comparative figures of examination fees charged by various universities across the country:
