Nagpur: In a disturbing incident targeting a senior citizen, an 83-year-old woman was allegedly robbed of her gold ornament by a group of accused travelling in an autorickshaw in Nagpur. Police have arrested three persons including a couple in connection with the crime following a technical investigation.
According to police, the complainant, Parvatibai Dayal Pati (83), a resident of Bhimnagar in Rameshwari, was returning home after receiving treatment at GMCH on April 6 at around 12:30 pm. She boarded an autorickshaw after the driver assured her that he was heading towards Rameshwari. Two women were already seated inside the vehicle.
However, when the autorickshaw began moving in a different direction, the elderly woman raised an alarm. The driver then stopped the vehicle near Railway Men’s School under the jurisdiction of Imamwada police station. As the victim stepped out, one of the women allegedly forcibly snatched her gold necklace having 29 beads, valued at approximately Rs 10,000, and fled.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Imamwada police station against unknown accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During parallel investigations, the Crime Branch’s anti-chain snatching squad conducted technical surveillance and acted on specific inputs to trace the suspects. A trap was laid, leading to the detention of three accused, Krishna Kallu Jatav (24), Shivani Krishna Jatav (22), both residents of Jattarodi in Imamwada, and Katerina Yusuf Thomas (22), a resident of Indiramata Nagar near NIT Ground in Yashodhara Nagar.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to committing the robbery. Police also seized the e-rickshaw (MH-49-CF-3154) used in the crime, valued at around Rs 1 lakh.
