Nagpur: Tragedy struck as a 74-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident at Government Medical College and Hospital on Monday.
The victim, Phulabai Laxmanrao Jangdekar, a resident of 89, Rameshwari Nagar, Ajni, was taking her evening walk when she was struck by a motorcycle on May 30. The bike, a Pulsar (MH/31/FZ/1782), was reportedly driven by Rahul Ramesh Tembhurne, a 20-year-old resident of Ward No. 4, Bhiwapur.
According to police sources, the accident occurred between Omkar Nagar Chowk and Shatabdi Chowk. Despite the severity of her injuries, Rahul fled the scene while Phulabai was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, after battling for her life for over two weeks, Phulabai succumbed to her injuries on Monday.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Surendra Laxmanrao Jangdekar (51), the police have booked Rahul under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of the IPC. Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
This incident underscores the dangers of reckless driving and highlights the need for road safety awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
