An old man was ran over by a speeding truck while another man was injured in a freak accident under the jurisdiction of Kalamana police station. Cops have booked the truck driver.
The deceased, cops confirmed, has been identified as Vamanrao Chowdhary (60) who resided in Sawli, Kamptee while the injured is Rahul Ingle. Police said that Vamanrao was riding pillion with his nephew Rahul on the motorcycle (MH 40 U 846) at around 11 am on Thursday. The duo were heading to attend a marriage ceremony when a speedy truck (MH 31 CQ 6679) hit the motorcycle from behind. Vamanrao fell with the impact and caught under the wheels of the truck. Fearing public wrath, the truck driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle on the spot.
Commuters informed Kalamna police who reached the spot and performed panchanama of Vamanrao’s body and sent the body for post mortem to Government Medical College and Hospital. Rahul has been sent to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, cops have registered an offence against the truck driver and launched search for him.
