Nagpur: A three day workshop on Dynamics of Development Workshop was conceived, planned and executed at LIT by the 1978 B.Tech. (Chemical Engineering), batch of Laxminarayan Institute of Technology. This workshop was aimed towards nurturing the soft skills of Third year students of the institute to train them for the challenges faced during campus recruitment drives. This workshop was facilitated by alumni including Ulhas Vairagkar, Madhav Kane, Milind Kher, Mukund Gadgil, Bajaj, Pandey, Dr. Koranne and Chahande. The workshop was well-guided by Ghisad who has extreme dedication towards the institute. The students participated and interacted with them with great keenness.

The workshop started with the inauguration ceremony, where the director of the institute Dr. Raju Mankar welcomed the guest speakers. The sessions on the various soft skill techniques were presented by Ulhas Vairagkar. On the very first day he shed light on the topic interview basics, wherein he covered the various factors in which the students were judged which included right from the knowledge of the candidate to the communication skills. The next session was on Group Discussion Techniques, wherein he explained what is a group discussion and its importance.

The different types of group discussions were explained & practiced and more emphasis was made on the various selection parameters. After this a practice group discussion where every student participated, wherein appropriate personal feedbacks were given by the panel members which helped the participants to improve their GD skills. Next session was on CV crafting, wherein Vairagkar made the point ‘Making effective Bio-Data needs Word-Smithing’. The day ended with a lecture on extempore techniques, its objectives and also mock extempore on various topics were conducted.

After the discussion on various softskill techniques on day one, day two started with a very important session which was the topic “What after B.Tech”. The lecture was given by Kane, Kher and Gadgil which could help the students to improve their soft skills; such as group discussion techniques, Personal interview techniques, CV writing skills, and many more presentation as well as communication skills. This workshop was not only aimed to improve the soft skills of the students but also was to guide the students on the technical front as well. Madhav Kane, Milind Kher and Mukund Gadgil took a session particularly on ‘Careers after B.Tech’. After this session all the doubts of the participants were clarified by the speakers.

Next session conducted by Vairagkar was on the topic Goal Setting. He stated the importance of goal in one’s life and also made the point how necessary it is to have a S.M.A.R.T goal. The second day of the workshop ended with a session on the basics of Presentation Skills. Vairagkar showed the participants some videos of the prominent speakers and explained the students about the factors which makes one’s presentation more effective and innovative.

The final day of the workshop aimed on conducting personal interview of the students. In this session mock interviews as well as one-on-one interviews were conducted. The workshop ended with valedictory session Chaired by Dr. Rajendra Ugwekar, HOD, Chemical Engineering Department, LIT.

Total 107 students participated in this work shop. The participants gained a lot of information on the various skills from the workshop including the faculty present lead by example and helped the students realize the importance of these traits in a persona aiming to succeed in the industrial as well as corporate world. Dr. B.A. Bhanvase, R.P. Birmod coordinated various activities during the work shop.

Final Year B.Tech. student volunteers Abhishek, Abhir, Pushpak, Priyanka, Grishma took special efforts in ensuring the success of the work shop. The positive feedback of the students was the ultimate measure of its success. This is the best example of Alumni support to the LIT.
