Nagpur: A drunken brawl between two friends led to brutal murder in Kalamna police area on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Vikrant alias Bhurya Haribhau Vankar (24), a resident of Prakash Nagar. The police have arrested Ganesh Shalikram Bhendewar (42) on murder charges.
According to police, Vikrant was a labourer and also used to drive auto-rickshaw on rent. He was in the book of police for his involvement in criminal cases including assault, theft and molestation registered against him. The accused Ganesh was working with a tyre moulding shop, police said.
On Tuesday afternoon, the two bought liquor and consumed it by sitting near a public toilet behind the RTO office. Ganesh started creating scenes after consuming the liquor. Vikrant reminded him of the murder of his nephew that happened last year. Ganesh got furious when Vikrant said that his nephew was murdered by four persons but he did nothing to them.
Enraged over the words, the accused Ganesh whisked out a knife from his pocket and slit the throat of Vikrant. Blood started oozing from his throat due to deep injury. When the profusely bleeding Vikrant started running away from the spot, Ganesh chased him and hit a stone on his head. Ganesh again stabbed Vikrant and fled the spot. On being informed about the bloody incident by locals, a team of Kalamna police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The accused Ganesh was arrested by the police from his house.
A case under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code was registered against Ganesh.
