Nagpur: Dr Prashant P Joshi has been appointed as Executive Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur. Dr Joshi, who hails from Nagpur, has worked as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and Professor and Head, Department of Medicine, AIIMS, Nagpur.
The letter signed by Ramesh Chandra Jha, Under Secretary, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has names of four persons as new Executive Director of AIIMS, Nagpur; AIIMS, Awantipora; AIIMS, Jodhpur; AIIMS, Raipur, was issued on February 3, 2024. After the conclusion of the tenure of Major General Dr Vibha Datta as Director and Chief Executive Officer in April 2023, the additional charge of AIIMS, Nagpur was given to Dr M Hanumantha Rao, Director of AIIMS, Madurai. Since then, no full-time Director was appointed.
Dr Joshi also featured in the top 2% most influential scientists in 2023. Dr Joshi had worked as Temporary Advisor to World Health Organisation (WHO) (Trypanosomiasis and NCD). He was given the responsibility of Nodal Clinical Expert in management of COVID19 for Maharashtra by Government of India and was also Member of COVID Task Force.
Dr Joshi did his MBBS, MD (General Medicine) from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur. He did his MSc (Clinical Epidemiology, UNC, Australia). Dr Joshi, who is also ex-Professor and Head of Medicine, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), is known in the medical fraternity as teacher, researcher, administrator, consultant physician for the last 40 years. He has guided 52 PG students, 6 ICMR-STS UG students.
Dr Joshi is recipient of Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship for Training at University Newcastle Australia under GOI-USAID Program. Medical fraternity of Nagpur expressed satisfaction over the appointment of Dr Joshi as Executive Director and hoped that he would take AIIMS, Nagpur to a new height with his vast experience.
