Dr Kalyani Deshmukh, Ustad Shujat Hussain Khan make ‘Brahmanaad’ a memorable musical event

The South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) organized a mesmerizing musical programme ‘Brahmanaad’ at the crack of the dawn, on Sunday (December 13). The renowned classical singer Dr Kalyani Deshmukh of Nagpur and internationally famed Sitar player Ustad Shujat Hussain Khan left the select audience spell-bound with their respective presentations.

At the outset, the musical programme started with Bhagwan Sahay, Additional Chief Secretary, Maharashtra, Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar, Leena Shrivastava, veteran playright Mahesh Elkunchwar and Vilas Kale lighting the traditional lamp.

After the traditional opening, the audience cherished every moment of the musical programme with Nagpur’s own classical exponent Dr Kalyani Deshmukh presenting a number in ‘Raag Lalit.’ Thereafter there was no stopping to renditions and renditions of class presentation. What followed ‘Raag Lalit’ was ‘bandish’ in ‘Vilambit Ektaal’ and a ‘taraana’ in ‘drut’ as concluding treat. The accompaniments that were provided to Dr Kalyani Deshmukh include Sandesh Popatkar on tabla, Sandeep Gurnule on sanvadini, and Kalpana Khardenavis on taanpura. The renderings of the classical singer received laud clapping from the knowledgeable audience.

2 DR.KALYANI DESHMUKH(VOCAL)Thereafter, internationally famed Sitar player Ustad Shujat Hussain Khan took to the stage and delighted those present at the venue. The opening masterpiece in ‘raag alhaiyya bilwal’ hinted the audience as a grand treat was coming their way. And truly, the Ustad mesmerized the listeners with notes in raag aalap, jod, jhala with his second presentation. Thereafter, the icing on the cake was the presentation of bandish in madhyalay, drut, teentaal that left the spectators smashing the early morning serenity with continuous clapping. The concluding masterstroke from the Ustad was rendering of a ‘dhun.’ The Ustad was ably supported by a young lad from Mumbai Amit Chaubey and Sapan Anjariya of Ahmedabad on tabla.

8 USTAD SHUJATKHAN (SITAR)A galaxy of other prominent personalities who graced the musical programme include Justice Prasanna Vairale, High Court Judge, Manukumar Shrivastav, Additional Chief Secretary, Dr Lokendra Singh, Dr Uday Gupte, Dr Sudhir Bhave, Devendra Parekh, Avalindra Shivlikar, and a host of dignitaries and artistes besides the spectators in large numbers who attended the musical programme ‘Brahmanaad’ organized at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall Campus in Civil Lines.
