Nagpur: Kalamna police on Tuesday booked husband and mother-in-law for abetting suicide of a young woman who was tortured for dowry. The woman was 7-month pregnant when she ended her life.
The deceased Nayana Dharmapal Wasnik (26), resident of Bhandewadi Railway Station Road, near Anand Bouddha Vihar in Kalamna area, was married to Dharmapal Wasnik (33) on 21.2.2016. Soon after their marriage, Dharmapal and his mother Saraswati Wasnik (55) started demanding money from Nayana and her parents for starting a business. As Nayana failed to bring money, she was subjected to torture, mentally and physically, by the mother-son duo. At times, she was beaten black and blue. Finally, fed up with the frequent harassment, Nayana ended her life on 16.1.2017 by hanging to ceiling fan with the help of odhni. At that time, Kalamna cops had registered a case of accidental death and probing the matter further.
Shockingly, when Nayana committed suicide, she was 7-month pregnant.
A detailed investigation brought to the fore the heinous acts of her husband Dharmapal and mother-in-law Saraswati Wasnik.
Based on probe and a complaint lodged by Suryakant Vijay Bhadakwar (47) of Bhandewadi, Kalamna PSI Bhoye has booked the accused under sections 498(A), 304(B) of the IPC.
