New Delhi/ Nagpur: Former Law Minister of Delhi and Aam Adami Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti may land in trouble, for his wife Lipika Mitra has lodged an FIR with Dwarka police station against her husband for domestic violence, and has also reached court to get her statement recorded.
According to media reports, Lipika Mitra reached Dwarka court No. 515 on Thursday, Sept 10, to get her statement recorded in front of the magistrate. While her statement will be recorded after lunch, said the sources, adding that an FIR against Somnath Bharti has already been recorded at Dwarka police station by late night of Wednesday, and the police has slapped on him offences under sections 307, 406, 420, 506 and 498 (A) IPC, envisaging attempt to murder, domestic violence, cheating and dowry torture. The AAP MLA may be arrested for the charges levelled against him any time.
AAP raises hands, Somnath pleads ignorance
In the entire episode of Somnath Bharti, AAP has raised its hands and refused to make any comment on the matter, saying that it is all private affairs of Bharti. Somnath Bahrti pleads that he is unaware of any FIR against him. On the other hand, he has claimed that all this is a conspiracy against him to divert attention from Nandnagari incident. He added, he is in terms with his wife and there is no FIR against him. It may be mentioned that a death in Nandnagari police custody under East Delhi had recently occurred, and Bharti had been raising voice against it.
It is worth noticing that Lipika Mitra, earlier in the months of May and June this year, had accused her husband of torturing her and beating her and the police complaints were lodged. Similar complaints were filed before Commission for Women (Mahila Ayog), Delhi, and it had created a high level drama. As a result, Bharti had filed an application for anticipatory bail in a Delhi court, but the court had to reject his application on the ground that there was no FIR against him.
Charges against Somnath Bharti:
Lipika has made allegations against her husband that after her marriage in year 2010 and honeymoon, Bharti had handed over all her ornaments to his mother. Right since her marriage, Bharti’s mother had been demanding dowry from her. At the time of birth of the first child, Somnath and his mother did not visit hospital for her sake, and Lipika had to bear the hospital expenditure by herself.
Dogs were urged to chase her: Lipika
It is alleged that Somnath Bharti continuously tortured Lipika mentally and physically, and always demanded money from her for car and house, and even dogs were urged to chase her. It was February 23, 2011 when Somnath severely beat Lipika in front his mother, and as she was helpless, he had to leave the house at 11 pm. Next day, Somanth again brought her back to the house and started abusing her in filthy language.
Prior to this, Bharti’s wife Lipika had filed complaint with Mahila Ayog, Delhi and made allegations that when he became pregnant for the third time, Somnath Bharti forced her to abort the pregnancy. Fed up of constant torture, once she attempted suicide by cutting her wrist.
